The ASHI South Chapter of Home Inspectors was formed in 1984. This was a time when the home inspection industry was still in its relative infancy, and there were few home inspectors and ASHI members in the state. The objective of the Chapter was to promote professionalism in the industry through continuing education and networking. In 1996 the Home Inspector’s Registration Act was put into law and overseen by the Alabama Secretary of State office. Prior to the law going in effect, representatives of the Chapter met with state officials to encourage a more meaningful regulation. In 2003 a Home Inspector’s Licensing law was enacted and was initially overseen by the Alabama Building Commission. Chapter representatives attended several meetings with the Building Commission to promote the current law. The Home Inspectors/EIFS Inspectors Licensing Division is currently part of the Division of Construction Management a part of the Alabama Department of Finance.
